Process for producing thermoformable foam sheet using a
physical blowing agent
Abstract
The present invention is a process for producing a thermoplastic
foam sheet comprising contacting a molten monovinylidene
aromatic or olefinic polymer with a physical blowing agent
to form a polymer/blowing agent mixture, and foaming the
mixture into a region of lower pressure within a sheet extrusion
line, wherein the extrudate is pulled and compressed to
form a thermoplastic foam sheet having a uniform thickness.

Polyol composition containing a hydrocarbon
blowing agent
Abstract
The present invention discloses a polyol resin composition
containing a polyether polyol blend, a polyester polyol,
and a hydrocarbon blowing agent. The polyether polyol blend
has at least a diamine initiated polyol, a propylene oxide
polyol, and a polyethylene terephthalate initiated polyol
having a functionality of from 2.3 to 3.0. The polyester
polyol is preferably a phthalic< anhydride initiated polyester
polyol. The blowing agent is a C.sub.4 -C.sub.6 hydrocarbon.
Also disclosed is a method of producing a polyurethane foam
combining the above mentioned polyol resin and an isocyanate
component.

Blowing agent compositions containing
hydrofluorocarbons and a low-boiling alcohol and/or low-boiling
carbonyl compound
Abstract
The present invention relates to blowing agent compositions
that contain at least one hydrofluorocarbon having a boiling
point of 30.degree.C. or higher and lower than about 120.degree.C.,
at least one hydrofluorocarbon having a boiling point lower
than 30.degree.C., and at least one component selected from
low-boiling alcohols and low-boiling carbonyl compounds.
The present invention also relates to processes for preparing
polymeric foam using such blowing agent compositions, as
well as polymeric foams and foamable polymer compositions

Phase stable polyol composition containing hydrocarbon
as the blowing agent
Abstract
The
present invention discloses a phase stable polyol
blend composition containing a sucrose and dipropylene
glycol co-initiated propylene oxide polyether polyol,
a polyester polyol, a compatibilizing
agent and a hydrocarbon blowing agent. The polyester polyol
is preferably a phthalic anhydride-initiated
polyester polyol. The compatibilizing
agent is a butanol-initiated propylene
oxide polyether surfactant.

Blowing agent blends
Abstract
The polyisocyanurate closed-cell foams. More particularly,
the invention relates to polyurethane and polyisocyanurate
closed-cell foams prepared with a blowing agent comprising
1-chloro-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HCFC-124) and 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane
(HCFC-141b). Foams prepared with the blowing agent of the
invention possess improved thermal performance.

Manufacture of non-CFC cellular foams using perflurinated
ethers
The invention relates to a process for producing non-CFC
resol foams of low density using perfluorinated ethers along
with a HCFC or CFC blowing agent, and to foams produced
by such a process. The process generally comprises: (a)
forming a mixture by combining a resol resin with a blowing-agent
blend comprising (i) at least one blowing agent selected
from the group consisting of hydrogenated chlorofluorocarbons
and hydrogenated fluorocarbons and (ii) at least one perfluoroether
additive selected from the group consisting of perfluorinated
ethers; (b) adding an acid catalyst to the mixture to initiate
foaming and form a foam; and (c) curing the foam to form
a cured foam that is essentially free of CFCs.
